Defining Moments!

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to share something with some of you guys in case you haven't heard about it yet. There's a defining moments art contest going on, this contest asks you to submit a piece of artwork that represents a defining moment as a Canadian for you. You must include approximately 75 words to describe your piece of artwork. The deadline is March 1st, if everyone could submit something that'd be amazing!

Cheers!

Taylor

Just an update on what I've been doing.

Hello everyone!

This blog isn't going to be very excting, just somewhat of an update on what I've been up to in the past week. I've been looking over various member content that has been submitted to TIG, generally within the past few months, trying to gather content that would be exciting and interesting for a weekly newsletter. I've also started submitting my own artwork (photography) to the global gallery as well as to the defining moments art contest. I have set up a flickr account for my photography as well (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tayenglish/). This is the first I have ever posted any of it publically other than maybe a few shots on facebook, so that's pretty new.

I've done a lot of exploring throughout Toronto in the past week, discovering new places and looking more in depth to places that I've already seen. I went to Lake Ontario on Sunday which was amazing. I checked out Kenzington market which was a very new experience, I've never seen anyhting like it. I also went to the Art Gallry of Ontario, which was one of the most incredible things I have ever seen.

Hopefully I'll have something more interesting or excting to blog about next week!

Cheers!

Taylor

Getting all settled!

I've been living in Toronto/participating in Katimavik for a month now and working at TIG for a little over two weeks. Adapting to all of the changes have been pretty stressful but it's all coming along quite quickly. Living in a house with 11 other people is not an easy thing to do. There's a variety of things that become much more difficult to do while living in such a large group in a setting that is suitable for an average sized family. Everything it takes to live with 11 other people will make living on your own or with others so much easier when the time comes though. So far I've been getting to know what it's like to budget, cook/portion, clean and get along with such a big group. It's not always easy, because of course you're not always going to get along with 11 different people who you see everyday, but this just makes the experience all that more interesting. Our group has started on a collective project within our community. Our goal is to provide an after school program for all youth, led by youth. It's our mission to get youth socializing in diverse activities and settings and also to educate them on different things. We want them to feel comfortable so what we're aiming for is to maybe put the activities in their hands and we'll be on standby to mediate. Sparking an interest in Katimavik would also be an awesome bonus. We've had a lot of great volunteer opportunintes so far such as: selling 50/50 tickets at a leafs and habs game, working at a volunteer appreciation dinner at Evergreen Brickworks, helping set up for activities and events at Variety Village and many others. We're learning a lot of new skills from various workshops and KCC meetings (planning our events while being here).

As I posted in my last blog I have taken on the role of Online Community Animator here at TakingITGlobal. I've been getting to know the website in depth and how to accomplish different things. I am now comfortable wtih answering members' emails who may be having technical problems with the website, spam-busing/bug reporting as well as approving various content for the site. I'm getting more into discussion board moderation and trying to find good methods to be a good moderator. I've also been gathering various content to put together for a weekly newsletter and have been looking in depth to panorama editing training.

New Online Community Animator

Hello everyone!

I just started at TakingITGlobal last Monday. I will be working as the new online community animator. I'm hoping to be able to follow up in the shoes of the last online community animator. I hope that I'll be able to help all of you with your needs, I will try my hardest to do so. I'm also very excited about getting to be more involved in learning about global issues and expand my knowledge about other countries. I'm going to try and update this as much as I can, I probably will once or twice a week.
